Overview
CHEF iQ is a system of IoT-based kitchen appliances designed to help home cooks improve their cooking skills. With hundreds of guided cooking recipes and times & temperatures presets, CHEF iQ makes it easy to prepare delicious meals. In today's fast-paced world, CHEF iQ allows you to monitor and manage your cooking from anywhere, so you can multitask and get things done without having to constantly check on your food.
The Problem
From first getting the idea to cook to finishing the meal and enjoying it, the CHEF iQ app guides users through every step of the cooking process... except for one: SHOPPING FOR INGREDIENTS

User Journey by UX Designer, Maitrayee Sohni

The Goal
Design a delightful in-product journey offering an integrated shopping experience that users could seamlessly use to buy ingredients and get them delivered to their doorstep for a recipes they want to cook using CHEF IQ.
Target Users
We conducted a survey among 3,000 CHEF iQ users to gain insights into their usage patterns and preferences. From the responses of 500 users who participated, we identified an opportunity to introduce a new feature that enables users to create a well-organized grocery list for the recipes they plan to cook. Users can also choose to have the required ingredients delivered right to their doorstep.

Documented quotes from conducted survey

Competitive Analysis
Research was conducted for both direct and indirect competitors that offer ingredient delivery for recipes. For each platform, their respective user journeys were analyzed to assess their strengths and weaknesses.

Analyzed apps included Tasty, Yummly, Food Network, Whisk, and Side Chef

Insights
The ingredient delivery user journey is divided into these following four sections. These sections are based on the tasks the user needs to accomplish. The key features mentioned below can make this task simple and fulfilling.

Guideline + Proposed User Journey
The user research and competitor analysis findings were shared with all stakeholders, including the software team, product manager, and marketing team. Based on the feedback received from the product manager, the following feature guidelines were established in relation to the proposed user journey:

Key Design Solution Points
Before implementation and the release of the new app version, the UI was refined even further based on feedback and reviews.
1. Easily access and add recipe ingredients to basket
2. Define recipe serving size yield edit capabilities
3. Distinguish redirection from CHEF iQ app to Instacart platform

I created this GIF to add some movement and activity to splash screen while users are waiting to transition into Instacart platform.

Next Steps
Continue to refine designs based on feedback and implement new features for Shoppable Recipes little by little as the user base grows.
